Sometimes we move on from things thinking what is ahead will be better. Blogs aren’t what they used to be because of social media, but I wonder if that was wise. It’s probably different for everyone. Maybe for you, social media is sustainable, but for me, it isn’t. It has consumed me, changed how I approach creating, made me a slave to what pleases people. So I’m going back to the blog. It feels like the right move for me. It’s a place to put all my creative thoughts and ideas without all the stimulation and distraction. I’ve never been a blogger. I have no actual clue how to do this, which is why it feels so good, maybe. The very word feels a bit silly. But I do love to share my creative endeavors. The photos won’t be fancy. The paintings may not be finished. It’s the process I hope to capture. And the highs and lows of an artist I long to share. Should the day come where this platform starts to feel icky like Instagram has started to feel at times, I’ll walk away from this, too. Because creativity is sacred, a gift from God to be stewarded, not a thing to be monetized. I am NOT saying that making money off of art is wrong. That’s a gift, too. I’m just saying that sometimes, we can very easily get our priorities mixed up and forget why we do what we do. More on that later. If I could hope for one thing, it is that you would find yourself encouraged and inspired.
I’ve name this The Daily Leader because that is the name of the local paper in my hometown, Brookhaven, MS. More to come!
